February 2, 2012: Can't believe but planning has begun for our 2012 Show Season. Contacting all of our students and clients to get their minds starting to think about what classes they want to enter and how they will achieve their goals for 2012! First show should be in March which will be an ADT for Lisa and Princess and possibly Terry & Will! :) We will see how that one plays out! First Open Horse Show would be a Reality Dreams Show in Lancaster, Ohio on April 29th! Keep checking back for updates to the show schedule. Throughout the season you can check out our Facebook page for detailed results and more pics!
January 4, 2012: December did not end well for our farm. My beloved mare Babe passed on Christmas morning. She and I were a successful show team from the time she was 7 mos old until she was 7 when I had to sell her while attending college. She returned to me when she was 19 and the woman who had purchased her from me had to sell her horses and asked if I would like to buy her back! That was a definitive YES!!!! She introduced 3 young girls to the show ring (Chloe, Olivia and Kaylee) and giving most of them their first blue ribbons! Even though she had not been shown by the lady I sold her to, she took back to show training and the ring like she never left! She was retired after 2 years of showing at the age of 21 and was ridden sporatically until just a few years ago when we decided she had earned her full retirement! Her health was great until when she coliced on 12/24/11, vet came out treated her, but it was not meant to be. She is forever in my heart and will be there until I see her again waiting for me in heaven. I'm trying to remember God has never promised those that love Him no trials. This is definately a time of trial for us but we continue to look up and rest in Him. RIP my sweet Babe!
12/21/11 It has been a very sad couple months at TLC Stables. The beginning of November the husband of one of our students, Shari, passed away unexpectantly. We continue to pray for Shari as she is dealing with her loss.
And on 12/17/11 one of our honorary family members passed away in a car crash. Ashlei was only 24 yrs old. She could be seen with us at the shows at Ashland, Ohio since she lived so close. Lisa knew her from her days as a 4-H Advisor in Knox County. Ashlei showed for us in 2010 when we were in a bind and needed another rider. She also would come and help groom, hold horses or do whatever was needed. Our hearts are heavy and her beautiful smile and willing attitude will be GREATLY missed. We are planning on some type of ribbon for us to wear and/or acknowledgement of her at the shows this next season. Pray for her husband and family as her brother was also taken during this accident as well as her beloved canine companion Belle. Photo above is Ashlei after her two 2nd place finishes at the 2010 Buckeye Haflinger Show in the w/j division.
10/23/2011 Clean sweep by TLC Stables family of the Haflinger Challenge Championship riding top awards! Will took Western w/j/l, Wally took Western w/j, Princess (trained & shown by us & owned by Sandy Loan Farm) took English w/t and L. Princess Bethany (owned & shown by our 2011 intern Brie Allen)!! Other placings were Princess took Reserve Champion Western w/j & Top 5 Halter Sr. mare: Abe (owned & shown by Brie) took Top 5 Halter Jr. Stallions/Geldings, Will took Top 5 English w/t/c & Top 5 Western w/j. We are so very happy and thankful to our wonderful clients and friends for making this such a great season! Looking forward to next show season!
10/18/2011 It's official! Will (Whispers of the Fruit CA) is now the all time high point Western w/j/l Haflinger according to the Haflinger Championship Challenge with a total of 255 points. This earns him the HCC Superior Award! They began tracking points in different divisions 4 yrs ago. And in the last 3 yrs Will has accumulated these points! We are so proud of him! He also has points in Western w/j (111) with minimal showing in those classes and in English w/t/c (120) with only 2 years being shown in that division! Our stallion Wally also has earned himself the HCC Excellence Award in Western w/j by earning 120 points in the last 2 years. Lucky Princess MMS owned by Sandy Loam Farm but trained and shown by us also earned points and the HCC Excellence Award in Western w/j with 89 points and English w/t with 113 points and she earned all these points in just 1 show season! Other horses/owners that have ties to TLC Stables that will be recognized with HCC Lifetime Awards are: L Princess Bethany (english w/t/c 78 points) owned/shown by Brie Allen (our 2011 intern): Manx RVRW (English w/t/c 151 points) & (Western w/j/l 85 points) owned & shown by Kaylee VanWinkle: Alexander RWF, he is for sale, (Western w/j/l 90 points) & (english w/t/c 114 points) owned/shown by Olivia VanWinkle: Archie's Boy (Western w/j/l 66 points) & (Western w/j 78 points) owned/shown by Rachel Schumann & also shown by Amber Roesser. Congratulations to all!!! We are VERY proud of each and every one of you! More to come soon when the annual HCC awards are announced at the sale this coming Saturday!
9/26/11 Unbelievable National Show! Only 5 horses representing the farm, Princess, Will, Wally, Bethany & Dazzle. Dazzle (owned by John Yoder of Valley View Farm) was shown in hand by John and won her 4&5 yr old pleasure halter division and went on to win the Sr. Pleasure Mare Championship! Dazzle was also shown in into dressage and w/t flat classes by Kaylee VanWinkle and did VERY well with a few 1st place finishes! Will and Madalyn had a great show also, placing well in all their classes from showmanship to western to english and dressage! They continued Will's winning ways in the western classes by winning the Youth Western Pleasure! Brie and Bethany had a GREAT first National Show with wins in hunter flat and dressage classes! Bethany was also shown by Brie's mom Donna in the western w/j! Wally did very well again and is proving our point that Walzertakt offspring make great western mounts! He and Brie were 3rd in Open Horsemanship and 5th in Open Western Pleasure! What an improvement over last year when the National Show was his very first w/j/l show! Terry also showed Wally in the western w/j to a 2nd place finish in horsemanship and a 3rd in the pleasure! Princess had an fabulous show! For only being 4 yrs old, she handled the stress of showing this season like a seasoned horse! She was shown at the National Show in halter, dressage, western, english flat and pleasure driving. She definately had a lot to do that weekend! She was also entered for the Pleasure High Point Championship which only allowed points to be accumulated in 4 classes this year. Much different from last year. To receive the High Point Championship you needed to compete in your horses halter division, Open Pleasure Driving, Open English Pleasure and Open Western Pleasure. That's it! Whoever earned the most points in those four classes was named Pleasure High Point Champion......And Princess took the top honor!!!!! We couldn't be more proud of having this beautiful talented mare with us for this show season! Thank you Steph & Pops for your confidence in us! We also will have her with us through the winter and next show season too! Can't wait to see what the future holds for Miss Princess! :) Now we are all just waiting to see how the Haflinger Challenge Championship Points work out and if any of our show string made it into the top 5 of their divisions! Will find that out at the Fall Sale and Futurity!
8/22/11 Wow! Not sure how to put into words the weekend our team of riders & 1 driver put in at the Central Ohio Haflinger Show in Ashland! Highlights from the weekend are as follows: Lucky Princess MMS owned by Sandy Loam Farms and shown by Lisa Schott won her first blue ribbon in western by winning the Western Pleasure W/J out of 14! She also put Lisa back in the driving ring (Lisa has only shown driving 2 other times and that was over 4 years ago!) They placed 5th out of 11 in the Open Pleasure Driving and WON the Novice Whip Pleasure Driving class! Madalyn Norton and Will (aka Whispers of the Fruit CA) were Reserve High Point Youth for the entire show just 1 point behind the High Point Youth! Margaret Martin and Wrace of Chestnut Ridge had a great show placing in 5 out of 6 of their classes! Wally (Waltz With Me MHF) is finally coming into his own in the ring and placed 2nd in the Open Western Pleasure out of 9 and he was only beat by his 1/2 brother Will (Whispers of the Fruit CA)!!! Wally also placed well in all of his other classes too! Intern Brie Allen not only had a great showing with Wally but also her 3 yr old Abe (Abel of Chestnut Ridge) and mare Bethany (L Princess Bethany), Brie & Bethany won the Sr. Horse English Pleasure, Open English Pleasure and Open English Equitation! Also check out our horses for sale as Brie's gelding Abe is for sale! Olivia VanWinkle had a great show with La Dott's Dazzle who she is training for John Yoder, Olivia and Dazzle placed in all of their classes! Shari Fisher and Caba (Caballa HHFH) also placed in all their classes (adult showmanship, open w/j Western Pl. & open w/j Horsemanship). We are so proud of everyone! Pictures coming soon!
8/1/11 What a whirlwind this summer has been! Just returned from a very successful show at the NY Gold Classic Haflinger Show in Horseheads, NY. We took Wally, Will and Princess and our intern took her 2 Haflingers, Abe & Bethany! We showed dressage, games classes, western, driving (shown by Steve "Pops" Townsend) and hunter under saddle. Brie took some photos after the western day, will try to get those posted soon!
We got home from NY at 1:45am this morning and waiting for us on our counter was the Sept. issue of Horse Illustrated and the Haflinger is the featured horse and our boy Will aka Whispers of the Fruit CA is one of the featured Haflingers in the article! We are SO proud!

7/12/11 Wow, what a month!!! We had a dressage show 6/24/11 that 3 of us attended and did VERY well! Brie, our summer intern showed her mare Bethany in TL1, TL2 & TL3 placing 2nd, 1st and 2nd respectively, only being topped by one of my former students from many moons ago, that is now training and has students of her own! Margaret and Ace improved their scores and placings with 2 4th place finishes in IntroA & IntroB. I took Princess again and won Adult IntroA & IntroB!! With a 76.875% on her Intro B test giving her the Reserve High % ride of the day! You can see photos of our day at https://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.10150248542899209.331290.84189309208 .
Next up was the Buckeye Haflinger Show, we had 10 riders and 9 horses representing TLC Stables! What a whirlwind weekend with many excellent placings and fun was had by all!!! Will post photos soon! Was wonderful to see Princess's owners Stephanie Hearn & Steve "Pops" Townsend and Steph's daughter Kassy! Kassy showed Princess in Leadline and did a fabulous job!
Next up NY for 5 horses and 4 riders! I will also be doing a Showmanship Clinic on Friday July 29th at 3:00pm at the show grounds. This is FREE to anyone who wishes to attend with their horse!
6/11/11 Things have been busy here on the farm! Training for show season is in full swing and we have actually already attended the first show of the season. It was a dressage show held 6/4/11 and we had great results. 3 riders and 3 horses attended. Madalyn showed Will to 2 2nd place scores in Intro A & B with Will in the youth division. Lisa showed Princess for the first time in Adult Intro A & B to 2 3rd place finishes (not bad for 3 weeks of work!) :) And Margaret and Ace came home with 2 5th place finishes in Adult Intro A & B (this was Ace's first show ever and Margaret's return to the show ring about 11 years!). We are so proud of our riders and horses!
We are now getting ready for the Buckeye Haflinger Show over the July 4th weekend! It will be a busy one, but I'm sure everyone will have a great time!
4/17/11 Welcome Grace Full Waltz! She was born this morning around 1:30am and is from our mare Gloria GHF & stallion Waltz With Me MHF! She is too cute! Please continue to pray for her to continue on her path of being a healthy happy foal! She had MANY visitors today looking at her! And tons of pictures were taken! Here is one, you can see more at our Facebook farm page, see home page for link:
3/4/11 2 posts in one week! We want to welcome a boarder to the farm! Margaret and her Haflinger gelding Ace! They are going to make a wonderful pair! Can't wait to see how they progress together! Hoping also to have them join us at shows this summer! Again, Welcome Margaret & Ace! So glad you are here!
3/2/11 6 weeks and counting until Gloria is due (due date 4/20/11)! This is a much anticipated foal and my stomach is already starting to do somersalts! Those that know me well, know how I worry about my animals so this is definatetly no different! We have just ordered the foaling camera (gave ourselves enough time to get it installed) and should be ready to go and ready for some sleepless nights. But as long as we are blessed with a healthy little one and a safe birth for both momma and foal we will be happy. Watch this site for TONS of pics and the announcement!
2/6/2011 Well after a few month layup, we are back to working horses, at least as weather permits! Hauling into an indoor this year instead of boarding out! I'm kinda liking it! In Farm News, Abbey made the hard decision to sell Caba, but it was made easier when Shari (also a student of TLC) decided to buy Caba! Can't wait to see those 2 in the show ring next year and her granddaughter Riley will be riding Miss Caba too!! Also, Will is no longer for sale (yeah!) and he is being leased for 2011 by Madalyn who has taken lessons and shown with us for 2 1/2 years! Will LOVES her so this is going to be a great match! Will have more news in the near future so keep checking back!
10/25/2010 Haflinger Championship Results are in! Whispers of the Fruit CA is Co-Champion western w/j/l, Reserve Champion western w/j and Top 5 English w/t/c!
